Shari Lyon

Most people are not familiar with the word "encaustic." It refers to an ancient painting process that uses a hot, melted mixture of beeswax and damar resin. This technique is the foundation of Shari’s work, which also incorporates oil paints, pan pastels, photography, and hand-drawn elements.

The process demands both patience and spontaneity—a rare marriage of control and surrender. It is labor-intensive and involves many layers and steps. Yet, the outcome is a dreamy, ethereal image with texture and depth that is unlike any other art form. Shari’s encaustic works must be experienced in person to fully appreciate their richness; photographs rarely do them justice.

In her art, Shari often explores the spiritual connection between trees and the Divine Feminine.

Trees—with their deep roots and expansive, reaching branches—symbolize strength, nurturing, and wisdom, qualities deeply associated with the feminine. Through her paintings, Shari seeks to capture the sacred energy of nature and its profound relationship to the feminine divine.

Inspired by myths, legends, and the natural world, her work becomes a visual exploration of the symbolic and spiritual significance of trees as they relate to the Divine Feminine.
